Football tournaments in August

Football tournaments were held in August for under 8s and under 9s.
The pitches at Cleadon Lane had been waterlogged since 13th August due to heavy rain. Whitburn and Cleadon Junior Football Club and is affiliated to the English Football Association (FA).

Encouraging Trade And Business Development In Whitburn

Meeting 3rd June 2008

Whitburn Traders  met on June 3rd at 5:30 pm in the Grey Horse Pub. If you are a local business and wish to be involved please contact Rachel Gibson, Area Team Leader of South Tyneside Council on 0191 424 7164 for details of our next meeting.

Whitburn Traders met on March 18th 2008at 5:30 pm in The Grey Horse pub. The agenda included improving the identity of the village and waiting restrictions/parking update.

On 4th December 2007 Whitburn Traders Association held their second meeting in The Grey Horse Pub. The meeting was attended by the majority of local business owners. Discussions included better parking facilities, clearer direction signs to parking, litter, marketing which includes the linking from the council website  to Whitburn on line.  Particular thanks was given to Mark Gibson (Business Development Officer) South Tyneside Council and Gordon Hanna of Tedco Business Centre ,Jarrow.


 Businesses and traders in Whitburn have joined forces with South Tyneside Council and local enterprise and development agencies to explore ways of boosting businesses development for the village.

The South Tyneside Business Forum held a free event for business and traders in Whitburn Village to provide an opportunity to meet, chat and network, and discuss opportunities, possible developments or activities to encourage trade and business for Whitburn.

Whitburn Traders' Association  organised three nights in December when  shops on consecutive Thursdays - December 6, December 13, and December 20  stayed open until 8pm. 

The village's schoolchildren,  sang carols outside the Grey Horse pub to start the festive season off on the first late night, Thursday December 6th.

Councillors ward surgeries

The Labour Councillors representing the Whitburn & Marsden Ward on South Tyneside Council normally hold three ward surgeries for local people, on the 1st Friday of the month at  Wellands Lane Advice Centre , one on the second Monday at The Lake Public House in Lake Avenue. and the 4th Tuesday of every month 1.30 pm - 2.30 pm at the Barnes Institute, East Street, Whitburn.
